NEXT GENERATION BIOLOGY; BIOINFORMATICS AND COMPUTATIONAL BIOLOGY

(In collaboration with BioAxis DNA Research Centre Pvt Ltd and support from Tata Consultancy Services Hyderabad)

Bioinformatics doesn’t need any introduction; it has categorized biology as another branch of information science. This field is evolving rapidly, which makes it challenging for biotechnology professionals to keep up with recent advancements. This one day symposium is recommended for both molecular biologists and computer scientists desiring to understand the major issues concerning analysis of genomes, sequences and structures. The event will discuss the strengths and limitations of various existing methods and potential Research and carrier aspects in bioinformatics.

Short Paper Presentations and Best Paper awards

If you are a student pursuing Graduation or Post Graduation in Life science or Computer Science, this is a unique opportunity to submit and present your Research/Idea. Selected papers will have a chance for presentations for 10 minutes in the symposium in front of the panel of Judges. Please send your papers in MS Word format, the length of your paper shall not increase 4 pages. Best 3 paper presenters will be certified by IEEE. We invite short papers on the following areas but not limited to:

Bioinformatics, Proteomics, Computational Intelligence in Bioinformatics, Medical Informatics, Drug Design, Immunoinformatics, Statistical Analysis in Bioinformatics, Genomics, Forensic Bioinformatics

Note: Registration is must for all the students intending to submit the papers shall register before sending the paper for consideration. Students shall submit proof of their studentship (Scanned copy of Bonafide certificate from the College/College Identity card).

SPEAKERS

Dr Rajgopal Srinivasan, Tata Innovation Labs (TCS)

Rajgopal Srinivasan heads the Informatics offerings of the Life Sciences R&D division at Tata Consultancy Services. A graduate in Chemistry from The Indian Institute of Technology in Madras, Raj holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign in the USA. Following post-doctoral stints at Washington University in St. Louis and Johns Hopkins Medical School, he was a research professor at the Johns Hopkins University in the department of Biophysics till 2003. He joined TCS in 2003 as part of its Corporate R&D Center in Hyderabad, India. An active researcher, he is the author of several publications and holds an international patent. His research interests are in the areas of protein structure prediction, use of NLP techniques for information extraction and search and understanding the causal effects of genotype on phenotype.

Dr R.Narayanan, Tata Innovation Labs (TCS)

Dr. R. Narayanan’s research interests are in developing computational models for predicting absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion and toxicity of new chemical entities, correlation of physical properties of new chemical entities with their biological effects and in silico lead generation. Dr. R. Narayanan, has been involved in drug discovery research in several capacities, in Indian and multinational companies since 1996. He has led medicinal chemistry programs in various therapeutic areas and has wide experience in the areas of hit identification, lead identification, and lead optimization. Dr. R. Narayanan obtained his Master's degree in Bio-Chemistry and Ph.D degree in Organic Chemistry in 1986 and 1993 respectively, both from the University of Madras.

Dr Sunil Kumar Verma , Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), Hyderabad

Dr. S. K. Verma is an Indian Scholar and Scientist currently posted in Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), India. He did his Ph.D. in Medical Oncology from the University of Oxford, United Kingdom. Other than authoring many research papers and book chapters, Dr. Verma has received several prestigious National and International Awards and Honors. Mentioning a few: The BioAsia Innovation Award-2009; CSIR Technology Award for Life Sciences-2008; DST-DFG Lindau Nobel Laureates Award-2003; Emerging Forensic Scientist Continental Award-1999 from the International Association of Forensic Sciences in USA; Commonwealth Scholarships 2003; DBT Scholarships 1995-97 and ICAR Scholarships 1991-95. Most recently, Dr. Verma has been admitted as the Fellow of Max Planck Institute for Infection Biology, Berlin and the Research Ambassador of DAAD (German Academic Exchange) to promote the bidirectional research endeavors between India and Germany. Dr. Verma’s research interests include the studies of signal transduction pathways in the human health and disease, in particular the tuberculosis and several human malignancies prominent in Indian sub-continent. He is also continuing his interests in Wildlife Conservation and Wildlife Forensics, and is one of the discoverers of popular Universal Primer Technology for Wildlife Identification (US Patent 7141364), which later became famous as ‘DNA bar-coding’.

Dr Amit Kumar, BioAxis DNA Research Centre (BDRC) Pvt Ltd, Hyderabad

Dr. Amit kumar is Resource Development Chair, IEEE Hyderabad Section and CEO of BioAxis DNA Research Centre Hyderabad. He obtained his PhD in Applied Bioinformatics in 2007. He was nominated as “Pioneers in Genomic education 2010” by Ocimum Biosolutions Hyderabad India. His responsibilities as CEO and CSO are to provide leadership towards maintaining BioAxis DNA Research centre’s excellence in real-world applications of DNA Forensics, Biotechnology, and other Bioinformatics and computational intelligence methods. He assists in developing and advancing a company strategic plan for its mission and objectives and promotes revenue, profitability, and growth. He looks after and guides the collaborative Research proposals and client specific services of several BDRC branches and departments. Dr Amit kumar has several publications to his credit in peer reviewed national and international journals, His Research interests are Reverse Vaccinology, Forensic Bioinformatics, Rational drug discovery etc.
