Personalized Genomics; Boon to Indian Healthcare
Source; BDRC CEO Blog
We have to accept the fact that increasing load of health issues of a common man and absence of proper insurance coverage/facilities in India is slowly pushing the middle class towards lower class and the lower class towards the worst class (Which may come under existence soon). Best Healthcare facilities are mere a dream.
It is rather an utter unfortunate for the country like India that higher percentage of its citizens don’t have the access to most of Government hospitals (Because of infinite procedures) and Good Private hospitals (Because of cost and poor Insurance coverage). One can easily sense people of this country fighting to fulfill the basic necessities like proper job, proper food, proper health etc , when is the time to using their intelligence? Still it is great that India is one of the big names in Science and Technology in world.

Now is the era of 5 star hospitals which is out of budget for many middle class families and just unreachable for the lower classes. Not to blame but somehow Insurance companies in India work on a concept of “How to not cover the medical condition” rather than to offer their best support towards the betterment of health of an individual. Imagine a condition of Heart attack of an individual in a high class rich family and observe the face of the relatives if they are offered to go to a Government hospital.,It would just be kind of no preference at all.! Infact many middle class families too would like to escape to a Private Hospital even if they don’t have insurance or they know it may be rejected by giving a solid reason, sometimes they just end up paying very high costs and loose lot of contingencies of their family which they accumulate working hard from years. Just imagine the Lower class now..,if the patient is in a serious condition, chances of losing his life are maximum or they just consult the nearest Government hospital and start with Hopes..hopes that their turn will come and they will get the patient admitted in the hospital, hopes of getting their patient attended properly, hopes that they will be behaved properly by the officials and doctors, hopes that they will get best treatment as much as possible. Mostly “Patients with Patience” reach the treatment phase here.
About 9.5 million deaths, which is about one in six deaths worldwide, occur in the country every year. Over three- quarters of these deaths take place in the home and more than half of these do not have a certified cause. Currently chronic diseases like Diabetes and Cardiac related problems have become so deadliest and and washing out the lives more than AIDS and any other vital infections in India. Every diagnosis of Diabetes, Heart disease, breast cancer, and the death from them, is an alarming sign that present medical science is not really competent enough to comply with the present conditions. Is it not the time to robust the medical productiveness which may meet the demands of treatment?
“Prevention is better than cure” seems to be a more realistic approach in the current scenario and using the tools like DNA test for prediction of the Predisposed and forthcoming medical conditions may prove to be a very effective method in medical science. The challenge remains to take such advanced technology to the common man’s medical store so that it may help them properly utilize it for their betterment.
